Kentucky Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law makes it mandatory for all states put a method in place for notifying the general public when a sexual offender is relocated into their area.
Megan was just seven years old when a repeat sexual predator that was living accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and killed her. It was determined that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had known that a repeated sexual predator was living in their community, this heinous act would have been prevented. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any objections.
Since the law has been enacted, Kentucky has strived to protect its public by providing the most recent information relevant to convicted sex offenders and their place of residence. The legislation has shown that while sexual assaults are still a occuring in the United States, offenses committed by prior offenders are on a decline.
The data attainable by the passing of Megan's Law has proven to be a critical advantage in keeping one's family safe from the threat of sexual misconduct.
